Dove the Shamrock, Warner and Bay City Sunday afternoon. The weatherman pretty much kept us off the water most of the weekend with their threats of Rain and Gods Fury. By Sunday afternoon I was sick of their BS and called up a couple buddies.
We met at the Alpena City Marina and motored to the Shamrock. Visibility was all of about 12feet. We found the wreck and was astonished at the size of the propeller. You see the Thunder Bay Maritime Heritage Center passes out free posters and on it is an amazing shot of a diver hovering over a propeller that appears to be HUGE. Well it is actually only about four feet in diameter. Gotta give the photographer kudos! The wreck is the stern section coming off of the bottom by about four to five feet. Ribs exposed but over all flattened due to it shallow depth. Second dive was the Warner. Same visibility. About all that we saw was the keelson and the tips of some ribs running parallel to the keelson. I had been warned that the wreck was really sanded in this year. On all three of these wreck were vast groves of weeds. Third dive was the Bay City. We had a little difficulty locating this wreck in that the buoy and anchor were about 100 feet away from the wreck and with 12 foot visibility .. But we found it and found lots of timber, identifying knees, ceiling planks, etc. Also there were Lots of fish and weeds surrounding the wreck.
I think we did awesome slipping in three dives when it was supposed to be such terrible local weather.
Wouldnt it be wonderful to be a meteorologist? To be wrong so often and still keep your job! I think their accuracy rate should be a condition of their employment. I can't believe people put more trust into the TV weatherman than their own attorney or doctor?? Who screws up more?!?!?!?!
