DAMN CROTCH strap

Haha! Actually, I'm trying to sell that set of regs (somehow I ended up with two complete sets of regs after finding a steal of a deal on some used regs locally and moving around parts to get what I wanted) and when I do, the money will go to a BP/W setup. I think I can get a plate and harness, then I just need a wing, and if I can sell my BC, that'll cover atleast some of that cost.

Hehe, actually I saw that, but I just wanted a utility first stage for lift work and such, so I got one cheaper a la carte.

The problem with buying used is it's still darn expensive!!! Some guy on TDS is selling DIY parts right now, BP's that you have to bend and drill yourself, and webbing by the foot. If I can find a guide to bending it all, I've thought about buying stuff from him.

The Kraken does backplates, doesn't he? Ever talked to him?

I might PM Kracken then. I didn't know that. This guy on TDS is selling them for somethin glike $30 each. I've got access to tools, too.


I've got a Sherwood first stage that I wouldn't dive with if you want it. It's been a long time since I've messed with it....I think I replaced an oring in it with something I had laying around, which is why I wouldn't dive it. I was thinking about trying to make it into a scubatank->paintball tank adaptor but never did. It might work well if you are using it to inflate lift bags with a pony.


And, you didn't come to the Spring megadive! That is where I got to see a BP/@ setup firsthand--Scubajenny's. If she hadn't left her gear on a picknick table, I wouldn't be dreaming of more ways to spend money I don't have

I wasn't feeling up for it (the weather and all have been vicious on me of late). Anyway, is she the one with the DSS rig? I remember eyeing a nice DSS setup last time, and now I seem to be diving one.

...with a 2" soft webbing crotch strap (to get back on topic). I'd even been thinking about sewing a crotch strap onto my jacket BC to stop it from riding headward when I'm inverted, but since the pockets were pointless with drygloves and rings, I just decided to go all the way. I love the BP/W, and I really like the stability, especially with it secure against slipping when I'm other than level.

On the weight belt? The point to the crotch strap is to keep the bp/w on snugly and prevent it from riding up. Unless your weight belt is attached to your bp/w, what would be the point of attaching a crotch strap to it?

Or I'm completely misunderstanding you. Entirely possible... I'm beat.

The crotch strap attaches on the back to the back plate or back pack. On the front I attach it to my weight belt and I then tighten it. It keeps my back pack secured as well as my weight belt on the front from moving.

This is a well proven configuration. I wish I could take credit for its design, but Cousteau and some of the Calypso divers started using it decades ago.

IMHO it is the best way of using a crotch strap. It keeps everything from shifting and allows releasing the weight belt without getting caught on anything.


Using a fastex buckle (or any plastic buckle) on the crotch strap should not be a problem since it is not a primary portion of your harness. Other types of buckles would also work. The convenience is to be able to close the crotch strap loop at the last minute.
