Buy a set of toolbelt suspenders from Walmart. Problem solved. :)

(Seriously: They will clip onto your weightbelt, and they do the job very nicely. I'd hate to have the extra 12 lbs that I need, when diving dry, to be hanging from my crotchstrap! That could get most uncomfortable in a big hurry!) :D

One of the reasons I really want to move to a BP/W setup is for the crotch strap and adjustability.

My first BC was a cheap piece of junk I got for $20, and used for 3 dives. It shifted around one me more than even John Kerry could, even if he tried hard he couldn't change positions asfast as this thing. I got a Scubapro Accent NT for $80, and it is much beter, however, it still shifts. I have to, several times per dive, pull it down lower on me: it just floats up towards my head no matter what. I think a crotch strap would keep that from happening. And after looking at a fellow Scubaboarder's BP/W setup and seeing how streamlined and close, comfortably fitting it looked, I'm looking for a cheap, used BP/W setup.

I can dive without a crotch strap (drysuit, 15l steel tank, 3l steel side sling) and its not TOO bad.
However all dives its the surface i find i need it. Without a crotch strap the wing tries to float and lift off my back above the head meaning im going face lower into the water while the kit tries to escape.

Mine is far more useful on the surface than in water.

I always use a crotch strap, with dry suit, 7 mm wet suit, 3mm wet suit, or even 3 mm shorty.

What I would strongly recommend is using the crotch strap attached on the back at the back plate/ back pack and on the front putting the loop around the weight belt. If you release the weight belt it all releases and nothing hangs up.

I prefer a 1 inch crotch strap and I use a small Fasteck(sp) buckle on the front loop. That makes it very easy to attach at the last minute around the weight belt. I have even buckled it underwater.

This crotch strap configuration work great, no chances of entanglement, and it is very quick to attach wile suiting up.

Hehe, that's the one problem with BP/W setups. It seems hard to find used ones, as they don't exactly get old and decrepit. :D

If anyone happens to hand me one for no apparent reason, I'll keep you in mind, but I have a feeling you're on your own this time. ;)

They pop up from time to time in the classifieds forum. One sold just recently. You have to get lucky, or keep a sharp eye, however, because they go quick.

Just one more beautiful thing about bp/w's... resale value!

It is an another sexy feature on BP/W config.... like a Thong. ;)

That seems like an excellent idea about putting the crotch strap on the weight belt rather than the harness!!! why didn't I think of that?

I also use an adjustable fastex 1" buckle on the crotch strap and I also have a piece of bungi between the crotch strap and the BP, to make it a little more comfortable.

I know that some people think that pastic buckles used anywhere on the rig will spontaneously combust (or cause your death in some other horrible manner) but is there some reason why other people don't put the crotch strap on the weight belt?

On the weight belt? The point to the crotch strap is to keep the bp/w on snugly and prevent it from riding up. Unless your weight belt is attached to your bp/w, what would be the point of attaching a crotch strap to it?

Or I'm completely misunderstanding you. Entirely possible... I'm beat.

Haha! Actually, I'm trying to sell that set of regs (somehow I ended up with two complete sets of regs after finding a steal of a deal on some used regs locally and moving around parts to get what I wanted) and when I do, the money will go to a BP/W setup. I think I can get a plate and harness, then I just need a wing, and if I can sell my BC, that'll cover atleast some of that cost.

The problem with buying used is it's still darn expensive!!! Some guy on TDS is selling DIY parts right now, BP's that you have to bend and drill yourself, and webbing by the foot. If I can find a guide to bending it all, I've thought about buying stuff from him.
