I met up with ibnygator(aka Bill in the above water world) at Eagles Cove Marina. Bill and family had rented a pontoon boat and we headed out to the west side of the lake. Bill will hopefully fill in the details as to where exactly, when he gets back to New York and a computer. Beautiful weather and scenery. WE stopped near a small island and entered the water descending to 20 feet and did a compass swim until we found the island again. We followed the base of the island to the right and followed the contour down to about 53 feet. Water temp at the surface was well up into the 80's at depth it was 55 to 57. Thermoclines were about every 20 feet and quite distinct. Viz was around 10 to 12 feet on this dive although closer to the surface it dropped some but there was more light. Highlight of this dive was finding a snapping turtle of fair size that was trying to hide under a rock with just his head being under the rock. Being the astute low viz divers that we are Bill and I spotted this turtle anyways. Interesting tidbit of this dive was me finding a scuba fin and then Bill found the other matching fin a few feet away. I had earlier found a bone(kind of resembled a tibia). No telling what the fate of that diver was. Tons of mussels many of them dead and we found some geodes also. Total dive 62 minutes and it was over way too soon for me.

Dive number two we stopped the boat near some "cliffs". Dropped sown to around 24 feet(Bill) and 20 feet(me) and followed this underwater cliff area for about 45 minutes. Viz here was about 6 feet with an occassional drop to 4 feet. Lots of stumps and crevices to look for creatures and we did see several different species of gamefish. Unfortunately due to time constraints we had to end this dive at 45 minutes. Another great dive though.

Really wish I could have spent more time diving with Bill while he was in Tennessee. Also wish I could have stayed for supper with them!! All the fixin's for taco's and burritos!!! Alas, had I stayed and eaten I wouldn't have made it home that night---full belly and a late night drive-----ZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZ:wink:

Sounds like ya'all had a good time. I was hoping he'd call. We were going to meet Sunday, but I guess he could'nt get through. I was camping at Barren River lake Saturday so it may have been difficult for him to catch me with a good signal. Anyway, maybe we will catch you on the next dive.

didn't work down there. I think they had already left New York when you posted contact info. He's a great guy and a good dive buddy. It was good to meet most of his family also--fun people.

sounds like a good dive.....maybe one day we'll get a weekend trip together down there..

gotta love those wonderful relaxing dives eh?

be a good weekend trip. It was kind fun going off the pontoon instead just wading into the water as we usually do at Falling Rock or the other quarries.

They had some nice chalets there right by the marina. Maybe ibnygator can clue us as to pricing etc.

Jim, thanks for making the drive, or I wouldn't have gotten any diving in.

I'm pretty computer literate, but have yet to put a link in a message that works, so I'll just cut and paste. Here is a URL to a map of the lake:
http://www.dalehollow-lake.net/html/map_.htm.

We dove starting from number 17 on the map. The first dive was way west near where it says Holly Creek. The second dive was on the way back to the starting point, under the 'c' in the word reciprocal. How's that for some silly directions?

Anyway, the dives were good and ole jbd is a good diver and an excellent buddy. In 6 to 8 feet of vis he was right where I expected him to be every time I looked for him.

Ky-Dwn-Under: Sorry about not contacting you. I didn't get to the lake until about 2 a.m. on Sunday and needed to use Sunday to get the family situated.

Well, good to see you had a good trip & good vacation, maybe next time you're down here we can hook up for a dive or two
