Hockeynut:
Although I hope it don't happen, There's lots of college hockey out there and it usually is more exciting than the pro hockey. I'm sure it's the same for junior hockey in Canada.
That's because college hockey and junior hockey are hockey, played by hockey rules. NHHHL (National hookin' hackin' holdin' league) is more like professional wrestling, where the refs rule based on their idea of entertainment value rather than fair play.

Seems that the playoffs are the only time to watch any pro sports.

What?! Jeez, if the rules are lax during the regular season, they're positively GONE in the playoffs!! The one thing I haven't missed with limited cable (about 15 channels) is ESPN and NHL. I do wish I had seen the 2 or 3 college hockey games they usually show, but NHL?! I couldn't care less if they have a lockout and go out of business. If I want to watch goons beat each other with sticks and occasionally hit a puck toward the net, there are quite a few minor league NHL leagues that advertise as hockey leagues.

But I guess if someone has to win I will show my Florida spirit and say go Bolts! (The Panthers are in, ummm, well it certainly isn't Florida anymore)

edit: I assume it's Calgary v TB in the Cup finals, right?

The point I was trying to make is that the overpaid goons actually put some effort into the game. It really is too bad they don't hardly call the penalty's. The game is so great to watch when it's being played right. Last saturday on espn classics they showed half an hour of highlights from each cup series from 1956 to 1972. I got the tape rolling partway into the 58 series. Talk about excellent hockey! And I am thrilled to have on tape "The Goal" by Bobby Orr.
