Dacor Talon airtrim question

Ok folks heres likely a dumb question. I apologize in advance. I just bought a Dacor Talon jacket with airtrim. I dont have tanks at home. I manually inflated the jacket and tried the "out" button and it releases no air. The manual does. Does the airtrim only work when hooked to the pressurized tanks or do I have a jacked with a faulty button system???
