It's a killer price and a very high performing reg set.

What's your diving MO?
We have been certified for 3 years, now at 50 dives. Always go with a dive shop/divemaster, although we are going to get Advanced OWC this fall in Aruba and then might venture out on our own. Typically go to Kauai yearly and get in 8-10 dives; all other diving has been in Caribbean/Mexico.

We own fins, masks, computer, snorkels. Now going to get (hopefully) BCs, regulators , wetsuits so the renting ends. All suggestions on other gear is also welcome! Been eyeing the Scubapro hydros pro as it looks good for travel, but a bit pricey.

Thanks for the help!

Don't want to open the BP/W (back plate and wing) box but I will.
All our rental BCs have been jackets. Would like to go to a wing. Ideally would like to dive with one before buying…

I can now pick up the D420/Mk25 for a little over $600

Go for it and don't look back. Make sure that first and second stages are tuned to factory specs.

Scubapro hydros pro

I have had mine for about a year or so and it is fantastic for recreational single tank diving at all levels. I ditched my BP/W kit and use the Hydros Pro exclusively for my recreational diving now.

I feel the hole in my wallet enlarging by the second!

Ok guys, about to pull the trigger on the D420. Want to go with a DIN first stage, but given most of our diving is in the US and Caribbean should I go Yoke instead? (Please say no. Really want to go with DIN).

Thanks!

I prefer DIN much more and I have used DIN regulators/Tank Valves since circa late 80's/early 90's BUT if you aren't diving locally using your own Tanks and only dive when traveling, you are better off going with Yoke.

There are many threads on this subject on SB, look them up and enjoy the debates :)

Although I dive an older center balanced regulator, the D400, I don't think I'd recommend the D420 for a new diver. If the D420 has not been serviced recently, get a quote for that service to determine your real cost.
A more conventional design might be a better choice.
Whatever your decision, a yoke mount is more practical for diving rental tanks in the US and Caribbean.

I’m curious as to why you say this. Have you had a poor experience with the D420? It seems that most of the divers on the thread like it.
Thanks!
