Wondering, what is the correct triangle to cut for an ice entrance hole. Does it really have to be an Isosceles triangle?

??? Why not equilateral?

Yes. Equilateral. Or close to it. It's much easier to position yourself for exit in a 60 degree corner than a 90 degree corner.

Thanks!

So? Wanna go dive in hard water?

I'll bring the chain saw.

Totally random question for you. First off, I'm not a certified ice diver. Never taken a course so on so forth.

What do you do with the block of ice once you cut it?

I speculate that that it would easily stand like a pyramid and you could easily stuff it under the ice sheet out of the way. I'd be surprised if you told me you pulled the block of ice out!

I'll assume the block is left in there. If it equilateral, that block has three ways in which in and go back into the hole. If it is anything but equilateral, it only has one way to go back into the hole. I'm going for a whole preventing murphy thing.

Really just curious.

Cut each side on a chamfer, slightly angled outward at the top. That way the chunk doesn't get away. Slide it up and out. You can touch up the opening after the 'manhole cover' is removed.

That make sense, but I sounds like you're pulling the plug out?!? That thing has to weigh a ton, literally! Am I reading that right? Does it pull out, the ice block, easier than it sounds? I bitch and moan about a shovel full of snow, but a block of ice that I suspect is from a big enough hole to allow two divers with all the appropriate gear to fit in!

How do you do it?

score the triangle, then cut into managable rectangles
pull away from the hole so you dont add the extra weight
use them for seats/set up blocks
put them back in afterwards
kinda like playing tetrus-but with freakin' big pieces!!!!
check my photos out from last weekend!
nice avatar again jax!......
thanx
have fun
