Heading to Cayman tomorrow. Just heard from Nancy at Divetech that there has not been any shore diving done from either of their locations for 3 weeks due to NE winds creating rough seas.
That could put a crimp on our plans! Anybody know if conditions at Sunset House are O.K?? How about the South Coast?
Any up to date info appreciated.

Well that sucks! I'm heading there on Sunday and we were hoping to shore dive all around the island as much as possible.
A couple of guys my fiance works with are already there and went for a shore dive somewhere around Sunset house, I believe, and it was fine. So hopefully the South coast wil lbe ok. I've been keeping an eye on this webcam on SMB and its been looking mostly calm there.

I think the conditions at Sunset will probably be O.K. but the problem we have is that we are planning on diving doubles and deco tanks. We can get those from Divetech but Sunset have never been very,err...,flexible on allowing anything other than their own little 72's into the water.(Supposedly due to "insurance reasons" )

Thanks for the link, looks like a Millpond there. Maybe we can do a scooter dive out to the wall from the beach at West Bay

Just have to see how it goes.

Edit. Just got an Email back from Sunset House. Shore diving "severely limited"
for the next 3 days.

Oh No- I'm planning shore dives too - gulp - don't think I can afford boat dives :-(
I'm not there for another 6 days, but this doesn't sound good.

As both of you will be arriving before me, if either of you has a 5 min window between diving, I would appreciate an update on whether shore diving is possible or not. Not that I will cancel, but I will have to plan to book some boats.
thanks,
Jackie

I shore dived at Sunset last Wed. and at Eden Rock last Thurs. - both were fine. As I look out my window I see a bit of a breeze, but nothing more. I wouldn't panic just yet.

Alex has the south side been calm ......I am coming down on thenksgiving and staying for 10 days.I own a place in Boddentown - seabreeze villas,I am trying to dive the east end on friday and monday and then with Peter milburn on tues. and weds. I spoke with Peter and we want to try to dive Kents caves which I really enjoyed last time.

Thanks

Hi! I just got back from 2 dives on the South Side. There was a bit of a swell, but nothing that would stop you from diving there. I hear the Turtle Farm had to pull their ladder, though.

Just got back from GC. I was there Nov 8-15th. The first day we arrived the winds were from the NW, which had every shore spot closed except for right around the Bonnie's Arch area. That means Sunset was closed, Eden Rock was closed, etc. Very rough.

The next day, everything was fine on the west side (winds changed to NE). All the west side shore dives were like glass except turtle farm, which was a little choppy (we still did it though). We did Eden rock/devil's grotto several times and it was excellent. North side shore dives were still undiveable though. I think you need to go there in in the summer months to do those, when the winds change to come from the south. I was looking forward to doing Babylon but it wasn't in the cards...

Should be ok for you on the west side hopefully.

Thanks for the updates Alex777 and jo8243, I feel a little better about the upcoming trip now. I have been very frustrated packing today and wasn't sure whether to bother bringing my dive flag!

thanks to both for posting,

Jackie
