I recently visited San Diego and was blown out of all my dives 5/21-24. How are the condiitons now? I have an opporutunity to visit again but have no interest in schlepping all my gear for no chance to dive or adverse conditions.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Good diving, Craig

Sorry, why can't or won't anyone help me with local conditions? I'm quite sure there are many of you out there who could comment on my simple question. Are boats going out? What are the conditions?

Thanks, Craig

There seem to be fewer SD members than LA members. Unfortunately, conditions vary widely between LA and SD, so I really can't comment.

Hopefully this thread bump will get the attention of any of the SD divers who might be able to comment more accurately. Catalina conditions sounded like they were nice this weekend if you wanna head up this way ;)

Diving San Diego is usually a pretty safe bet but May was tough. It has been pretty darn good lately.

I dived in SD on 5/29 and 5/30 (LJ Cove, LJ Shores, and S. Casa Beach). Red tide was pretty heavy off LJ Shores and moderate off LJ Cove. I know boats went out this past weekend. You might want to call a few of the local dive shops and boats to get their take.

Good luck!

Red tide is there, so the first 20ft are pea soup. Below is unpredictable.

I had two really nice dives this week end at La Jolla Shores: Friday night, visibility in the canyon was amazing (30+ @70ft); Sunday morning bat rays were out and visibility @80ft was alternating between 15ft and 1ft (just after a bat ray took off).

It seems to really depend where you go. Another report for Saturday morning (same location) said:

If you want the sensation of diving today without having to clean your
gear, I suggest dunking your face in a bowl of cold pea soup, dumping
a pitcher of ice water over your head, rolling around in a sandbox,
and slapping yourself heartily with a rubber hose.

I'd bring my gear and cross my fingers :D

Thanks for the replies, it's been a tough year all around. I wish the best for all SD dive operations and divers.

I hedged my bet, I'm going to Little Cayman with my son for the 1st week in July.

Warm regards, Craig
