Hi, My wife and I will be in Curacao for a week in a few months. I want the best diving and she wants good dining options. Would Westpunt be the place to be or will we need to be closer to Willemstad? Thanks!

Mutually exclusive terms.

Best diving, Westpunt.

Best dining Willemstad. Some good food in Westpunt, but not open every night. Landhuis Misje, Wednesday (or is it Tuesday?) through Sunday (or is it Saturday?); Sol Food; Friday through Sunday; other options not up to par in my mind. Until they get their act together the Lodge dinners range from okay to absolutely awful.

45 minutes to an hour apart in location.

You are going to have to pick one over the other.

Or weekend in Westpunt and weekdays in Willemstad or close by.

Hey there Travelinman2!!!
That is awesome that you will be coming to Curacao!!

Personally I think the best mixture of diving, both shore and boat is on the south west coast of Curacao!! Everything from Daaibooi Bay to Watamula as an example. However, having said that I also love some of the further east dives (ex. Eastpoint, Klein Curacao, etc...) but most of those need to be done by boat. That is the great advantage of the west, you truly have the best of both worlds!!

Regarding restaurants the most variety of course will be found in and around Willemstad. The west offers some great dining experiences like SOL Food, Landhuis Misje, Lodge Kura Hulanda, Landhuis Daniel, Lantourna, Rancho el Sobrino, Bahia BBQ, and Jaanchies. Each of these mentioned is unique and different!!

If you would like more info or if I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to email me directly! I am always happy to assist!!

See you soon on Curacao!!

Thanks for your responses! I'm going to bookmark these restaurants for wife. If I can get her to like west islands, I'll get best dive sites! It seems like Landhuis Misje may be closing dpfrom their facebook page:(

Yes, Misje has been sold and is currently closed. The new owner hopes to reopen later this month (March). I think it will be another great dining option in Westpunt.
Email me and I'll send you my "notes" on the West end of the island. Maybe the missus will find something to her liking. Or.... put her as the primary driver on the car and let her shop :)

Thx all, I booked Westpunt (shore and boat dives) for a few days and then Avila in Willemstad for dining. I look forward to the diving though and wonder if there's a dive op that will pick is up at dock. OE will pick up on land for fee.

What dock? There's the Dive Bus. They'll pick you up at the Avila Beach resort. The Dive Bus - Pick up + drop off service

If you're going out to Westpunt and then moving into town, you're going to want a car. It's a 45min. drive. If your wife likes finer dining, the place out west for that is Landhuis Daniel. Landhuis Daniel Curacao Janchies and Rancho El Sobrino are local places - not what I'd call fine dining.

This is possibly the best in town: Bistro le Clochard Curacao | Swiss and French Cuisine in the Rif Fort
Ribs Factory in Salinja was good also. http://www.ribsfactory.com/index.html

You would do well to stop at a grocery store on the way to Westpunt. Get some breakfast food, snacks, drinks, and depending where you stay, get some charcoal so you can buy fish from the local fishermen, right off the pier, and then go back and grill them on your deck. We also grilled chicken, veggies, and such. The snack shack next to Go West diving is great for lunch.
Enjoy!!!
