Hi. We are thinking to go to Playa Ancon for a 1-wk family vacation on Aug. 28. Most likely will stay at Club Amigo Ancon.

I see there's a dive shop by the Amigo Ancon hotel but don't know anything about it. Has anyone used them for diving and can comment on

* How good are they?

* Do they have a good boat and where do they take you?

* Do they provide intro scuba for the non-divers?

* What do they charge for diving?

* What certification agency are they with?

* Are they open every day, or only certain days of the week?

How about snorkeling there?

I have my own scuba gears and my family have their own snorkeling gears. But due to baggage restrictions I'd rather not take them if the resort/dive-shop has good gears. Does the resort have good snorkeling gears? How about the dive shop for diving gears?

Thanks a lot.

Sorry can't comment on location as we've only been to Sandals in Veradero where the diving is free. :D

Are you flying Sunwing? They offer a free sport bag (15kg) on top of your one suitcase and it was great. We each had one suitcase plus our dive bag. We like our own regs and BCDs with integrated weight system.

That's good to know about Sunwing. However it is Cubana flights, if we do take this trip. 15kg won't be enough for my dive bag though, with my BP/W.

The dive shop is right on the Ancons beach, Very good staff nice boat ,aslong as the wind is not up the boat goes out 7 days a week ,dive sites are good all levels , morning dive tends to be deeper.
Dives start at 35$ approximately and go down 5$ a dive!
Stayed next door at the Brisas' last December and dove at the Ancon...Planning on returning this December.
Enjoy

Not going to this resort now. Will be going to Villas Jibacoa, flying with Canjet. Canjet also allows a sports bag, for 20kg. That's good, as I can split my scuba gears and my family's snorkel gears into more than one bag.
