Liveaboards and local islands are the way to do Maldives diving without breaking the bank

I just paid US$1400 for 35 dives done in 12 diving days. My accomodation where I had an apartment with a buddy cost US$40 a night for 13 days. This is on Fuvamulah Island. Flying back to Male tomorrow where I have 5 nights at a hotel for US$260 and 12 dives in four days at US$45 a dive.

Problem is that diving in Fuvamulah is just about tiger sharks (and the infamous tiger zoo). Or diving in the blue hoping for some more sharks. Who will you be diving with in Male? I trust you will dive in Hulhumale harbor. If you enjoyed Fuvamulah, you will certaintly enjoy your time in Hulhumale (I hope your hotel is in Hulhumale rather than Male)

Dang... things I have video of from Fuv these last 12 diving days, Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, Mobula, dolphins, Hammerheads, thresher sharks, eagle rays, Tiger sharks of course, and white tips. Turtles, octopus and other smaller critters as well. Lots of GT's Tuna and other fish.

Not first time to Maldives and yes hotel in Hulhumale first dive there in the morning. I already have a thread on this ongoing trip. Was here in Nov Dec last year as well.

Glad it worked for you! I was utterly disappointed the two times I went there. I much prefer Gaafu atoll, just north of Fuvahmulah. To each its own! :)

Well we did 35 dives.... so it's not like it was just everything in two days.

Did Shark Tank twice today will do another site later as Friday prayers means delayed start. Also go as afternoon is just my dive buddy myself and guide. Guides will let us do whatever dive time we want in the afternoon.

Lots of Rays and eagle rays some Bull sharks and Lemon sharks and only one small Tiger skirted by from a distance. It's nice being here post peak season. Next Maldives trip might just do a week at one atoll and another week at a different atoll. My dive buddy and I do enjoy the very relaxed quiet time in Fuv after the dives though. I understand your point that you need a lot of dives there.

I am curious to hear from you about afternoon dive in Hulhumale harbor. They always take place in the morning, so please let me know whether there is any action there at that time of the day. Which dive centre are you diving with? In the weekends, Ocean warriors often organise 3 tanks boat trips in the nearby atoll at very sweet prices.

Just came back from Banana Reef. Excellent as only myself and my dive buddy and two guides. We are diving with Raagedivers. I asked guide leader basically can we go super slow and they guides basically gave us the dive briefing on the current and direction then they followed us at a really nice slow pace. We did go against the current for half the dive but still was not tiring.

Good variety of marine life and the gullies are nice to dive through. Going to switch to Nitrox as third dive did a slight back gas deco getting footage of a moray.

Guides are really good. I think maybe four customers tomorrow so Shark Tank will be one of the dives again. Going to move this discussion to my own thread.
