Even though i wont be able to get the Archimedes until the summer starts I was wondering if i could get some first hand accounts on how it works and if it is a good starter computer. Also my LDS from back home was saying they sold it for ~$450 but i have found it online for ~$260, I have a feeling that they are trying to screw me over on this.

It's an LDS, they do MSRP because they hurt for business...
I have the Archimede II and it's a good computer. Nice thing is it does log temp and avg depth, which a lot of entry pc's don't do. It's the same as the DiveRite Nitek Duo so any reviews on that are applicable. Has user replaceable batteris which is also good
I like mine, not sure I'd pay the full $250 for it, I got mine as a demo. I prefer diving tables and use computers mainly as bottom timers anyway unless I'm doing a lot of shallow repetitive dives. I.e. Open water Training... that's usually 6 dives a day

Is the Archimedes the same as the Tusa IQ-700? If so LeisurePro has the Tusa for $225. If you want the DSS bungee wrist mount I see he doesn't offer one for the Archimedes but does for the Tusa.

The Archimedes III was my first computer. I bought it on the recommendation of my OWI, who positively swore by hers (and still does). I liked it and found it easy to use, but after a year or two of careful but fairly regular use, it started giving me erroneous depth readings . Although my LDS was very helpful and swapped my computer for a new one, I had the same problem again. The next replacement had a loose battery contact. In the end, I went with a completely different computer. Your mileage may vary...I'm starting to believe I have bad computer ju-ju. One of my current computers, a Nitek-X, has been behaving crazily since I got it. Thank heaven for great customer service, is all I can say!
