Dr. Pivnick
and now that you've asked, can't remember the female doctor's name. Catherine something, I think.

It's likely that neither one will be taking new patients but Pivnick would always see someone new to him, if it was diving related.

I can get the female doctor's name, if it's really urgent
My dive buddy was recently diagnosed with a heart condition. He is seeing a heart specialist on Friday. After that perhaps a diving doctor would help with what’s possible if anything.

Geez, Norwegian Cave Diver, sorry to hear that.

I understood that.

On a separate post, there is a discussion concerning the need for a medical clearance to dive in some countries, particularly if one is over 40.

How does a person get that done, particularly if living in the Great White North? I'm struggling to find a doctor within 7 hours drive that knows anything about diving.

The issue is also compounded by the Canadian health care system that requires referrals to doctors. One can't just phone up to make an appointment.

Just wondered if anyone knew what it takes to become a "DAN Doctor"?

My google-foo is poor and I was unable to find the appropriate information on DANs website.

How do doctors get on DANs recommended list? What qualifications are required?

My curiosity was sparked by a local experience with a DAN doctor. The doctor in question runs a hyperbaric chamber outfit, but demonstrated minimal diving knowledge. My assumption is the doctor is a hyperbaric treatment expert.

Please tell me that DANs list is not like Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards or PADI 5 Star dive shops...

If you are a physician and would like to be included in this referral database, please send your resume or CV for consideration.

There used to be a list of doctors online that DAN maintained but I can't find it right now. The page currently tells you to email DAN for a referral :(.

I did...I don’t know how that list is made up. The doctors were generally hyperbaric doctors treating wounds, not diving medicine doctors that can give a dive physical or sign medical forms. Many are also retired. I had no luck in my area, which is the biggest city in Canada!

Perhaps I should try again and hope for a better answer. I want to do things the right way but it’s not easy.

I don't doubt it. Diving doctors are few and far between. I think I heard that there's one in Cozumel.

"Honey, I've got a dr. appointment tomorrow. I'll see you next week!"

This list is not well organized but there are few in different location across Canada. Diving Medical Examiners List - Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society
