Rick Murchison:
If we do not defeat them? Absolutely. It is the express goal of our enemy; they claim they will never rest until the new caliphate rules the world. I take them at their word, for they are as serious as a heart attack.
Rick
Oh Rick.....really!!!!!!! I'm amazed that someone like you could be so afraid of them as this. It's exactly what they want and the point of their terrorism to start with!
Remember also that from the other point of view America is trying to do exactly the same thing with it's own values and culture etc....even to the point of using force to achieve it.
See this as a war and only look for solutions in that area and we really are in serious trouble.

Nope, we are NOT the same...you will never convince me.

I have Iraqi friends, so don't think I am lumping all Muslims together please. But the ones blowing up civilians totally randomly with their children are not the same as we are...maybe some of you need a field trip.

Take a look at the actual criticism of his "science"...he is declared to be a fraud by other Creationists as well as Evolutionists.

He's represents the truth of all the criticisms of "junk science" which have been raised in this thread and is an embarassment both as a representative for "Christians" and/or "Creationists" and/or "Scientists".

bwerb: It does seem that some SB members are upper right quadrant while many others migrate lower left. As divers we are, most likely, much closer in overall world views than our constant debates: DIR, LDS, MOF, etc. may indicate. In the end, after a week of back and forth, many folks on this board just go and get wet. Good safe diving to all.

Who's tested into the upper right quadrant? No one that I can see? That's where the current administrations of the US, Canada, Britain etc. are all showing but I just went back and double-checked...so far (with one exeption) we're all hanging out with Ghandi!

Bweb - thanks again for pointing this out. I find it interesting that the top guy in the skeptics society (at least I think that's who he is) that he debated didn't point this out.

People not interested in seeing him in a debate should not watch that video. I gave it only out of a 'interest' point of view of anyone wanting to see a debate of two people disagreeing on the same issue we're talking about going head to head - nothing more.

Cheers

Neither are exactly what I'd call "respected" in the field of evolution, one is repected as a science journalist and the other as an almost successful tax cheat.

Definition time...(I think this was a reply to one of my posts)...

Catherine, the "we are all the same" is not a universal "we are all the same" it was a recognition that when most "normal" :D people (citizen of western democratic society) take the political compass test, they tend to end-up in the lower left quadrant, however our governments tend to be in the upper right quadrant. The "we" isn't indicative of the "world" as a whole, it's indicitive of the average member of our current society.

The people to whom you refer are definitly not in the same quadrant as we are.

okay...good just checking. I have to keep Kim in check, he can get a little left of left.

I do see your point, but it is all relative. What I find disturbing is that people don't really seem to interested in asking people who have been there many times what it is like there. People seem very invested in their opinions.

I never hear anyone asking Jb so...what is really happening over there? People don't want to know, really. Sometimes I don't like the answers either, but I still want the truth.

Kim, democracy will spread. It is happening. That is the goal, not fear of anyone. Self determination (for some of us) is what we hope for people, and what is in our interests. Enlightened self-interest, if you will. I am glad to know you took a field trip...figures you did actually. :)

I already read it...I agree in many ways.

I just deleted a long post Catherine as it was probably too political.
For the record though I think you misunderstood what I originally said. Iraq is now a special case that has gone far beyond the cause and effect cycle that has produced all the problems in the Middle East in the last 50, 60 years or more - basically since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
I've actually spent quite some time in both Iran during the last year of the Shah, and Afghanistan just before all the foreigners were expelled and the Russian backed coup occurred. I think I have a fairly deep sense of the regions history - and how the local people felt in those times. It's not hard to start from there and follow the progression up to the present.
