the guy said he'd be back in the lifetime of some of his followers ... that was 2,000 years ago, and we're still waiting

i wouldn't hold my breath

I think he means you will most likely be dead in the next 100 years and therefore find out if there is a God.

yes, i think that's what he means

what i mean is that i know the truth now, i don't have to wait till i die

it's clear (to me) that the entire death of Jesus, second coming, God in heaven waiting for us is a metaphor, not to be taken literally

If we knew the truth it would be bad business for all of the worlds' religions..... or at least all but one if one of them somehow got everything right.

everybody has to find their truth and stand on it ...

i found mine

How does that square with being open-minded?

If new data were to present itself, would you still stand on that truth?

Riiiight......and the last time any religion has produced "new data" was......?

I believe in something beyond this world. I also understand that whatever it is is well beyond the boundaries of human comprehension. Every religion is just a metaphor to give us a sense of what lies ahead.

5 years in the Catholic seminary system has taught me to easily spot the flaws. I don't think their stated mission was to turn me into a cynic, but that's what they accomplished. A few too many "inside jokes" for my liking...

obviously not ... because to me truth is not absolute, but a work in progress

only those who think there is ONE absolute TRUTH rest once they "find it" and won't change their minds no matter what evidence is presented

to me, my truth changes as i change and the information changes. that's not an ego threat to me

(simpy by saying "my truth" as opposed to "the truth" all of this was implied)
