Thanks to all for the replies. I am always looking for unusual destinations and this one struck a chord. I may combine it with a more accessable lake like Clear Lake, Oregon for a road trip.

Haven't done this personally - also on my "bucket list" - but I have a hazy memory of a LDS that could set you up with a "sherpa"..?
