We have been to Cozumel many times in the spring and fall, but never in the deepest part of the winter. We may come then next winter. I was hoping someone might be able to advise me of the water temperatures at depth in January and February a bit more specifically than Christi's excellent sticky thread.

In my Dive Trak log, downloaded from my Aladin Air, I have minimum temperature on each dive since I started using the software in 1995.

In early March, I have seen 75F, but mostly 77-78F

In early April, 78 increasing to 79 and maybe 80 by late month.

May has been 80 increasing to 81.

We stay in Canada June to September.

October sees 82 to maybe 83F.

November has been 82 to 81F

Early December has hung in at 81 to 80F.

So what happens in late December until March?

Does it get down to, say, 72 or 73? Or is about 75F about as cold as it usually gets?

Thanks for any info.

Andy

I was there this past December 21-24. My computer showed 80F every day.

Last 8 days, couple 80’s, couple 78’s. All the rest 79’s.

Depends on El Nino, La Nina and some ther weather factors. 77 to 79 degrees would be the range but could have an oddball year were it maybe a degree higher or lower.

In my experience, water temperature stays relatively near 80 year around. It is the air temperature that fluctuates during the year and that makes the water feel warmer/colder.

When it is 90 deg hot and steamy on land/boat, 80 deg water feels very warm. In Jan/Feb, air temps will be 72-82 and 80 deg water feels cool. Add in the Jan/Feb winds on the boat and 80 deg water might feel cold. Bring something warm and dry to wear on the boat.

I've seen around 77-79 Jan/Feb the last 4 years.

As noted by @Bubblesong our dive computer thermometers may need calibrated against a known reference as they aren't always as accurate as we'd like.

I've seen a couple degrees difference between a handful all in the same water.

Are you sure that's what you meant to say? When the air is hot the water feels cool and when the air is cold the water feels warm, even if the water temperature is the same in both cases.

For me, if the air temp is hot, I am hot and I can tolerate water temperatures longer. If the air temperature is cooler the same temperature water will feel colder to me.
