Here is my attempt at a trip report.
I went to COZ for a 10 day/10 night stay.
Flew Continental from LAX-Houston-COZ.
No problems. The airport at COZ pretty laid back.
Shuttles to resort are $8 US. The timeshare folks are easily ignored. (pesky though)
I used taxi's 4-5 times and only had a minor problem once with the change in dollars & pesos. always confirm price before getting in and learned very quickly to have the right change.
Didn't rent a car, but would like to next trip at least for a day or two.
Had access to a bike and rode all over every morning before diving. It was nice and cool early in the morning.
Many restaurants in town and I ate at Casa Denis and La choza, both of which I thought were excellente.
Walked into town twice, but wouldn't want to do this more than that. One time because I ran out of pesos for a taxi.
Followed Dandy Don's advice on taking 1-5-10's for tips for DM's, maids, waiters, etc., but used the MegMart ATM to get pesos for other transactions. I prefer Chedrui market as the bakery is very nice.
Now, on to the resort. I stayed at the blue angel. 4th floor, I don't mind the exercise and the view is absolutely stunning from up there. Rooms are large, clean, with small frig. Water is available on every floor. Water pressure is weak up high, but still okay, with plenty of hot water.
Balcony has room for hanging gear to dry out. AC worked flawlessly, although I only used it for a couple of hours in the afternoon and left the doors open the rest of the time. The lobby has Wi-fi, and saw many people using there laptops, (I really should buy one).
The staff were friendly and helpful. I appreciated the tips from the front desk on many things.
The restaurant food (at the resort) is very good, had breakfast and lunch there each day. Ordered off the menu, good selection.
Beer was cold (I like Victoria) and the frozen Margaritas are..........well....delicous.
The dive shop is small, but works well. I rented a BC and Reg for 10 days. One rinse tank, hangers, lockers, nice shower area and banos. Pony & Martin were very helpful and Martin showed me how to rebuilt a Reg and we put new o-rings on an SPG one day. they try their best to put people on boats of equal skill level. I really appreciated that.....
I did 20 dives in 9 days of diving. 2 shore dives in front of the resort and around the "ray pen", one twilight and one at night. 76 minutes on AL80, like I'm excited..............woow.
The dive boats & DM's: The boats in the am are fast, very fast. DM's Mateo & Horhay are good, liked them both, but spent much more time with Horhay.
Here the scoop: You can dive your air on the morning boats, I was getting 59-67 minutes on an AL80, but the afternoon boat is a timed dive at 45', (didn't do that one). Second dive is usually by computer, ran out of time before air, oh well. (Nitrox may be the answer here)
You can get AL100, but I don't think steel tanks.
Dive sites are great, did most of them, even Baracuda up north. The diving is wonderfull.......drift......sometimes swift, other times not to bad.
Saw lots of stuff: tutles, nurseshark, baracuda, lots of fish. I love wall dives.........
Boat load was sometimes 3 of us, and the most crowded day there was 8 of us, but we had 4 DM's. Most days were 5 of us.
Overall grade A+.
Most often said by me when on the boat: "the water is sooo blue" and "it's so clear".
I understand how everyone has there favorite ops.
this place (COZ) is great and I can't wait to return.................. GOD I hope it is soon!
I met many people from all over the US and had a wonderful time.
Okay.........................enough for now......
