Those are all nice memories, but as with all memories, there are some things that don’t fit the reality of the past. It happens to everyone; I am not picking on you. I much prefer researching old documents written at the time of the event or looking at photographs to interviewing folks about their memories for just that reason.
OK, you win; so there were a few cruise ships coming to the island by 1978, but there were not remotely as many as now. I don't think any of the piers were built yet, but you will set the record straight, I am sure. As you correctly said, I do not remember if there was anything at that corner or not. Other than that, my account is accurate; I am not making any of it up.

BTW, Google Earth street view clearly shows the Rasta's sign on the place across the road from the bar I was speaking of, i.e., what was at one time Bob's Marley Bar, aka Paradise Cafe; the image is not taken from close enough to clearly show any signage on that place.

EDIT: I just looked at some video I shot there in April; I was looking for a sign on the bar on the water side of the road. I didn't see one in my video but the menu on the wall says Rasta's as well.

OK, but which one was it, the one on the water or the one across the road? Both of them have been there a long time. I don't specifically remember there being anything there in 1978,
I just saw Rastas float in the parade. It said "35 years in Cozumel." I guess that makes it 1988, or generously, 1987.

Angela told me her father William worked for the state and came to the island as an administrator with the project to put in the airport runway. When did the current runway (commercial side) get put in?
Did you read my reply? What did she say the year was when he came to the island? For the project in 1966 or the one in 1975? I don't think it was earlier...

Thanks, and I was the gringo on it throwing lots of beads to the Nino's. I suspect the 35 years is reference to the Rasta bar next time I see Angela, I'll ask. William is definitely not old enough for 1966.

Once again, I am not talking about Rasta's per se (the one across the road from the water with the Rasta's sign out front which is readable on Google Earth street view), but the place across the road from it that was, for a time at least, called Bob's Marley Bar/Paradise Cafe. It may be part of Rasta's now, but years ago its signage showed something else. I looked at GE and went through some photos and video files that I shot there last April; I did not see that there is a sign of any kind on it now, although the menu on the wall behind the bar is a Rasta's menu.

Many brain cells have fallen by the wayside since my first trip to the island in 1978; I do not specifically remember if that bar was there or not then, though I do remember El Mirador (there was no human structure there, just the rock formations) and The Naked Turtle (later called Playa Bonita, now defunct).

I admit to not knowing anything about the inception of Rasta’s nor the construction of the original airport runways.
However, I did have a great tropical fish dish at La Choza on Saturday and some fantastic tacos at Otates last night.

That’s what I order every time I go to La Choza. Love it!

Grabbed a great bbq lunch at Billy’s Asadero on 65th. More than enough food for four, $35. Pork chops, chicken, ribs, chorizo, shishkabab skewers, grilled onion, backed potato, rice, tortillas and home made salsa (in a bag). Must have weighed around five pounds! They have a few tables there but we brought it back to the condo to enjoy the view. Left overs for lunch tomorrow as well.

Couple more meal pics for this restaurant thread and I’ll stop. Been a lot of fun diving and dining!
Grilled octopus from Casa Cozumel, pork shank from Guidos and mixed ceviche from Perlita.
