Since we got a variety under the "spotted" moray thread, let's just throw all the other gorgeous eels into one thread now.

Goldentail eels
Sharptail eels
Purplemouth eels
Chain moray eels

Show me what you have found in the Cozumel waters.

I have some of each to share, most found right at the shore dive at SCC:

probably the same one, different day, out hunting at SCC shoredive

Goldentail, there are dozens of these little guys at SCC shoredive

one of the biggest Goldentails I have every seen... they are usually pretty small compared to other eels

another Goldentail.... you can see the color variation is pretty large... but not the eye is always the same

Purplemouth Viper eel, at shore dive at SCC

Chain Moray eel, once again in the shallows at SCC

For those people who don't think Shore diving in Cozumel is worthwhile.... I have seen 6 different kinds of eels in the shallows in front of SCC. Spotted moray, Goldentail moray, Green moray, Chain moray, sharptail moray, and purplemouth viper!

Is this the one in the engine block?

most eels move around, so it could be. This pic was taken in the first rubble pile in front of the pier. It was a few years ago. When we saw the engine block, it had 3 spotted eels inside one day and then only 1 spotted a few days later. They move alot. The purplemouth moray always seems to be in the same spot, out near the gate under a V shaped piece of concrete. There are at least 2 dozen goldens in front of SCC and they seem to be in same places dive to dive during the week. Green moray we have seen in the large rubble pile in center of area but he is always buried and we can only see his tail or sections of his body, never once getting to see his head.
