I use a pony bottle here in NY/NJ but I never bothered to use it for warm water diving. I also rarely see pony bottles on boats in warm places.

My sweetie and I will be in Coz next week. I want to dive some of the deeper sites if the weather and the divemaster cooperate. I'm wondering whether it's worthwhile to bring my pony with me.

Any opinions? Doc V? anybody?

With vis that good, it can be pretty easy to get a lot of distance between buddies. And with so much to see, it's not hard for buddies to get more disconnected than they should. A CEA in boat traffic could be a problem.

Diving with someone who is really important to me I am much more concerned about safety. (Yeah, I know it's always a concern. ) But this time out I want to be sure there is enough emergency gas for me AND for him, especially if one of us has a regulator failure.

I intend to stick to him like a barnacle.

Although you hardly ever see a pony bottle in the carribean,if you feel more at ease with one,I would use one-period!!Comfort level is everything and sometimes the divemasters have their hands full [depending on size of group].This year I plan on purchasing a pony myself and I will take it when I take any trips.Last FEB while on Santa Rosa I buddied up with someone who I had dove with here in the states[in a group]the whole dive he did ONE buddy check!!!!!!I told the group leader that was the last time too!!But I would check with the airlines to see if they have any regulations regarding taking the pony bottle.Hope this helped a little-and I have to admit,I'am jealous,Cozumel is such a great dive.Have fun, dive safe and HAVE A BLAST !!!!!!!!!!

Just curious... did you take it?
Did you use it at all?

I've wanted to get a Pony Bottle for a long time, but haven't. I usually try and dive with the biggest tank in the group, so I can help someone in trouble.

How was your trip?

Yes, take it. LOA & OOA situations can occur anywhere.

Also, while not common, Coz is known for the passing but violent rouge downcurrent. You want to be prepared.

Do have fun.
