Coz for week for $1k with food, flight and scuba?

It's hot...very, very hot...thunderstorms pretty regularly but mostly in the afternoons. However, mornings can also get a little freaky thuderstorm-wise depending on the front-configurations, but most of the ops send out the boats anyway...wear your wetsuit and mask and you'll be fine...lol...

Which is another thing, in my opinion, you should consider when selecting a dive op. I don't mean to slander any, but some have been recommended on this thread. I've seen some of their small six pack boats going out which do not have any kind of overhead cover....how they handle their surface interval without being miserable, whether it's the sun or the storms, is beyond me. I have been caught in those afternoon storms, and they can be quite severe, but at least we had a 'roof' over our heads. Again, I've never been on one without, but I've seen them going out all the time.

Airfare Might be the most expensive part. How about this for about $12 a night:

Don't know how you can beat this recommendation, however, it surely would make for a rough week, but would be interesting I guess. Steven, have you actually stayed there while diving?

True, if my wife was certified, I'd have a $2k restriction... but more likely, she would instead want to go with me, but could not (she has insufficient vacation time with her new job, that's the whole reason I'm being given a week to myself). Then she'd be [more] jealous of my dive week without her, and not let me go.

But the wife would never go for the type of accommodations I am fine with... so the inexpensive vacation would suddenly start to cost serious dough!

You got that right....oh, the dreams of a week of coz without my beatiful wife...don't get me wrong, I love her and she's a great dive partner, but having her along really does increase the cost, and having to do those annoying things that cut into my diving....like eating, sleeping, etc.

Speaking of shore diving, I've only been off the Casa Del mar dock, but post Wilma, it can be interesting....a lot of trash to look through. Clothes, purses (nothing in them), pier foundations, etc. If your not just a reef person, again, the shore diving can be interesting. Just a thought.

Just came back from Caribe Blu... Blue Angel has a good package deal with the hotel.

Re: shore diving. Whoever said that the shore diving sucked there was not looking. Head south from the corner marker and you will see most anything. Assorted regulars in the fish dept + Drum, puffers of numerous varieties, squid, octo [in daytime] arrow crab, golden eye eel, spotted eel, snake eel, unknown moray eel, etc etc etc.

all the tanks you can suck down for free! The depth goes to like 30' max so you can stay down until you are tired of diving. We liked the shore diving ~almost~ as much as a boat dive. Much more relaxed and do/go wherever you want. No group to follow or deal with.

You could stay at Costa Brava Hotel. I used to stay there when I was young and poor...lol...its actually pretty nice for like $30/night...or less...don't worry about what it says on their website, as they negotiate...plus it's right across from Dive Paradise...

the op mentioned camping I thought it might be a step up especially in July.

I have not stayed there but I heard about it on a different forum. I might have to take a look next week when I am there. To me the hotel is the one place you have the most control over budget wise. The nice thing about Cozumel is that there are a lot of inexpensive hotels to choose from and lots of cheap places to eat.

When I used to come to Cozumel on a dive vacation, before moving here for good, we stayed at the Hotel Aguilar. It a basic room with two double beds, a/c, hot showers, clean, swimming pool, right downtown, one block from the Blue XT~Sea Diving office. Current rates are $40 per night. That's $20 per person if your buddy tags along. Seven nights will run you $140 per person. Five days of two tank dives with your preferred shop will run $340 plus 10% tax, plus about $10 in marine park fees, for a total of $384. So far you've spent $524. Staying downtown puts you within walking distance of all sorts of cheap eats and eliminates those pesky cab fares, which can add up. "Todo es posible", everything is possible!

Great suggestion close to all of the good food and entertainment.

I live in NY so this was nothing more then to rub it in. My sister emailed me a page with a tuesday till tuesday round trip Detroit to Cancum 92 inculdes taxes.. 92 dollars... That would be nice to see local. Almost worth the 8 hour drive there first hehe

I'd have to see it to believe it. $92 just happens to be the taxes and fees, which is what you would pay if you were given a free fare.
