It's pretty obvious what I meant. When the country is not issuing tourist visa, that means the country is not ready to let us in. Everyone else is ready to go. My buddies in USA have been asking me about when to get the flight tickets, my relatives and friends in Indonesia have been asking me when I can come. They are all ready, except the Indonesian government. Get it?

I plan to bring 6 buddies with me there in August if the country is open for foreign tourism. I don’t want to be responsible for doing something illegal.

Once Indonesia is open for foreign tourism, I would make sure everyone in my group;
(1) to get the vaccine before traveling,
(2) to have travel insurance that include COVID-19 rider and
(3) to have contingency plan for 2+ week extended stay if they were tested positive for the virus, requiring hospitalization or quarantine, before heading home.
If they are not capable and willing to do all those requirements, then I would not let them go with me.

Indonesia is already open for tourism just apply for the social visa. I'm sure you are aware many FB forums telling foreigners how to get visa's to enter Indonesia. It's quite a business for the visa agents. I do business in Indonesia if I needed to travel to Indonesia it is a simple process to get a visa. No one mentioned about doing anything illegal so why bring it up? I had plans for Bali and Raja Ampat dives March last year but had to cancel those trips. There are good cheap liveaboard deals for single occupant per cabin for Raja Ampat but alas although I am tempted I will not travel.

I could always combine a business trip with a dive adventure but for now I choose not to. Vaccines are not I will wait perhaps next year things may improve to the point where travel would be safer.

Sorry - maybe it's a language thing, but it's very clear that he meant he that he would not be going to Indonesia right now, even though he technically likely could, because Indonesia is not yet ready/open for tourism. Also, why do you call the folks that will join him on trips clients? Dan helps organize trips for folks that are interested so we can get a group discount, but each person books directly - not through Dan as he does not have a dive travel business. I am scheduled to be on one of those trips to Raja Ampat next Feb and will be a buddy - NOT a client!

What client? Where do you see in my post mentioning client? I don’t get paid doing all these. You are full of imagination. I just put together a group. Some liveaboard company if we gather certain number of people in the group, we can get a free of charge (FOC) cabin spot. We then split the FOC equally to everyone. For example I contacted my agent, Tim Yeo of Bluewater Dive Travel | Scuba diving travel agency - Book Liveaboards and Resorts about booking a 6 spots in White Manta for a trip to Sangalaki in August. According to whitemanta.com if we can get 6 divers in a group, we can get 1 FOC. So I ask Tim to secure 7 spots for the cost of 6 spots since the 7th spots will be free and split equally the FOC to 7 of us. So everyone in the group gets 15% off.

Yeah I think you need to calm down a bit. You and Dan are generally high quality posters and this doesn’t seem fitting.

In general, as we’ve seen time and time again during this pandemic, there are very few rational people, and people generally fall into the extremes, in one side or the other. I think Dan’s comments are very rational. The biggest thing is, if you’ve got the vaccine, we need to open up. If you're vaccinated, you’re not going to be a superspreader, and it’s INSANE the initial word from doctors was “we don’t know”. That’s not how vaccines work.

if somehow people expect everyone to get vaccinated, yet continue 24/7 mask wearing, complete social distancing and no travel...then what the hell is even the point of the vaccine???

my stance, and I think I’m rational: if you’re unvaccinated, wear a mask at all times in public, and avoid crowded places. Don’t travel for pleasure. Once you’re 2 weeks past vaccination, return to normal life. I’ll still wear a mask in public, but I live in Japan and it’s normal and I don’t find it uncomfortable, so why not? But if we really want to end this thing, we need heard immunity via vaccination. And if we want people to get vaccinated, we need to let them know once they’re done they can live a normal life again!

There is a major risk, ie a risk with very bad consequences, that variants which escape the vaccines arise. At the moment there is concern about a Brazilian one. If you are happily carrying on like it is 2019 having been vaccinated, take one of those from one country to another and pass it on you are going to kill a load of people and set back the recovery.
