I am UK based and assume this forum covers that scenario. As follows:

1. Have the Gold level of cover but the standard 120 day per "trip" (assume this means "journey"). I think this means if I go say to Spain and work for less than 120 days and then go (without returning to UK) direct to say Mexico, the residue of days left will apply say, I have 60 days my insurance still covers me for non-diving related accidents whilst in Mexico. Comment welcome.

2. To what extent does one require cover elsewhere for non diving related stuff (although I am happy to forego cover for ersonal possessions)?

Many thanks.

Yes, contact DAN. Not sure what you mean by covering non diving related stuff. In Nova Scotia we have to take out extended Blue Cross emergency medical coverage (beyond the 1 month covered) when out of the country (ie. in the U.S.). But we are covered by that Blue Cross for diving accidents as well. This may not be what you're asking.

you also mentioned "work" in spain. You will want to clarify DANs coverage with respect to "work". If you are "working" and not diving, then you are not really on your vacation journey yet...

Yep, I'd contact DAN directly. They've made some changes lately to their policies in terms of the gold package and whats covered on the general medical bolt in. So its best to go straight to them for the most up to date correct information.

Yes, I need to discuss it better with them (have not always understood their reply exactly). By work I mean working for a dive company as a Pro Diver, that is what I want cover for but with non-diving periods ((80% of the time?) I need medical cover which I assume is the other "half" of the insurance. Can't see why I need some other insurance!

Flight delay, medical bill(non scuba related), personal liability etc etc.
I have separated diving(DAN) and travelling insurance to suppliment each other.

Well, the basic Pro Gold gives 120 days non diving. There does not seem to be an option to opt out of that and use that saved for separate cover. Any recommendations for a separate insurer for long periods of being away and likely any part of the globe?

I've used World Nomads before for longer trips, it works anywhere outside of your home country. I haven't really found anything better in travel insurance for long-term travelers.
