If you are serious about taking a number of technical courses you should look into a program like Indian Valley Scuba's Academy of Deeper Education Lifetime Learning Program. Only $999 for the entire set - huge savings versus buying programs ala carte.

And that includes the following programs:

Advanced Nitrox & Deco Procedures
Advanced Technical Wreck Diver
Advanced Trimix
Basic Trimix
Cavern Diver
Equipment Specialist I
Equipment Specialist II
Fill Station Operator
Hydrostatic Tank Inspector
Intro to Tech
Nitrox Blender
Rebreather Intro
Technical Diver
Trimix Blender
Visual Tank Inspector

Thats $67 per course. Whats the catch?

There is no catch.

We teach every day of the year, offering over 350 programs a year. Our 2009 Diver Education Program Catalog is available by clicking on the link or by calling the shop and requesting a copy. The Academy of Deeper Education Lifetime Learning Pass program allows us to bundle the most popular courses and offer them in a manner that is cost effective for us. Our course schedules build upon each other in a cascading fashion, so our divers are required to come prepared to each course. This eliminates the need to spend hours reviewing and refreshing what they should have learned in previous courses.

All of our instructors work directly for Indian Valley Scuba, and their compensation is not based on class size or student count. As a result we have no minimum class size, so if you sign up for a class it happens. This in itself benefits our divers in that they are better able to schedule their time to meet their own personal training goals, knowing classes happen on time and when scheduled. That also allows us to keep a much better handle on costs. Every diver that takes continuing education programs ultimately will purchase gear, dive more, and continue their on-going education - and those three items are what we promote. Our students tend to become very active customers of our dive center, joining us on trips, referring others to us, and generally helping grow the dive community - and that completes the circle.

It's a fantastic deal and we've been running it for nearly two years now. It works for us and our students.

I charge $250/day. It usually takes three days. It is up to the student. I never teach strangers, (a diver I have never dove with), and before I accept any money I will do an evaluation dive. I then give the student a detailed list of skills/ drills he must practice before he shows up for class. It is his/her choice to be ready and then how much the cost will end up. I have had students who didn't take my advice and practice and it cost them over $1000.

Dang I wish I lived closer to you!

When I first started looking for an Adv Nitrox / Deco class, my "local" LDS was charging about $500-600 for the combo. When I went back a few months later to sign up and pay, PADI had forced the owner to dump his TDI classes, and only teach DSAT instead. The cost also went up to $1200 for the same equivalent.

Needless to say, I looked around and found a new instructor, although 100 miles farther away.

Well when you are ready for your next step look us up! We even have on site housing for our students at no charge to make it more convenient to take classes here!

in vancouver, its 1000 all in. this includes dives and gas. but the gears costs 10x's that much

I have heard of this sort of thing, but never seen it. One of these days, the anti-trust people are going to come down on PADI like a hammer.

300.00 for AN and 450.00 for DP. Plus gas, tanks, food, etc... this is in the middle Alabama area.

As is often the case, there is more to this story for sure.

PADI does not require any dive center to teach PADI (DSAT) Tech courses. They are not included in the dive center's contractual agreement with PADI.

No, but how much pressure do you think PADI could place on a "5 star Padi shop" that was also teaching through other agencies? When PADI sees most of a shop's advanced classes going to XYZ agency instead of PADI DSAT (and it's a PADI shop), how happy do you think that makes them?
