I think the course was around $700 for Adv Nitrox & Deco. But, I reiterate the comments of the previous posters. You will spend so much more on the gear and dives that a hundred or so on a course will not matter. It also depends on the environment where you intend to dive after the course. If you plan to dive in the ocean (or Great Lakes), then don't do all of your dives in a quarry. Of the eight dives I did for the course, four were in the Atlantic and four were in a quarry.
Also, the shop that I trained with had a philosophy for this type of advanced diving instruction:
* The student needs to interview the instructor
* The instructor needs to interview the student
* If the instructor and student feel that they are a good match, then go for it!
My shop also would match online prices (much appreciated with a doubles reg, better reel and SMB, doubles ring, manifold & bands, tech computer, ...). The $$ I saved on equipment was equivilent to the course fee. Plus, they gave me free fills for dives I did for the course (they didn't advertise or actually say this, but I was never charged for fills ... over $200 in nitrox & O2 fills when it was all said and done).
An added advantage to the ocean dives was I got to know the folks at Olympus in Morehead City, NC. They are a top notch outfit that offers tech charters. Ocean diving at this level is much different than quarry diving. Definitely train in the environment you plan to dive.
