Hi, currently i am diving in the tropical region but i will be furthering my studies in UK for 3-4 yrs(in specific, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne) this coming september so i would like to ask if anyone knows the cost for two local dives(in pounds) and whether a semi dry suit or 2 wetsuits with hoods will be sufficient?

I'm from the South of England so can't help with advice on the cost of local dives.

I would imagine there is a dive club at the University. There will be a number of local clubs if not - without doubt the best way to get diving locally.

FWIW I pay £26 for a one dive trip on a RHIB or £36 for a two dive trip (one wreck/one drift) off a hardboat. These are commercial charter prices and are pretty fair indications of UK prices.

People DO dive in the UK with semi dry suits - even through winter. Without doubt, the vast majority of UK divers who dive in the UK will use a dry suit. I use my throughout the year.

You will get plenty of local info from http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/forums/

If you do any UK diving I hope you like wrecks because we have got thousands of them around our coast. :)

Try the uni scuba club. Dont know costs at all as i never dove in the UK when i grew up there, however i love Newcastle, finally the Toon might be making their way back into the top half of the table and hopefully into Europe again if they dont get the UEFA Cup, but i digress. I looked at going to uni there, but went to Southampton instead, really liked both places, but Newcastle is might cold above and below water! I would drop some cash and go dry if you can splurge at all. Good luck in your studies ;)
