That's where we're looking. The place to stay is called El Galleon...

That canyons dive looks like a wild ride.

If we do end up here, hope some of you will still be able to come for a day or two of diving.

I did notice the place is a little more pricey. What do they have that differentiates them?

IMO, it's the nicest resort along small la laguna (and the nicest place to have a san mig! Or halo halo... :)). It also caters to an international crowd. Practical wise I'm pretty sure the maintenance costs for the resort are higher since they are the only ones on the beach with a pool and they run a quality dive shop. But I'm guessing on the practical wise bit. I stayed in the resort next to it. I can't remember the name of the resort but I wouldn't reco it for a family.

Ohhhhhhh Ish.... you game? :D

El Galleon and its bar 'The Point' are run by a good friend of mine. The dive shops Techasia and Asiadivers are not strictly the same business, but are closely afilliated.

The Point bar is actually built smack bang on top of the Asiadivers dive shop, and the Techasia shop a 5 minute walk down the beach.

I'm on good terms with all of the instructors there, from regular to tech, so if it would help you in any way to help answer any questions, I'd be only too happy to pass on their contacts - just drop me a PM.

I am biased as I started diving there in 95 / 96, but the fact is that I keep coming back year after year, so they must have something going for them.

Thinking about it, you could also consider sending a PM to Happybuddha - he used to work with Asiadivers (he's even prepared to dive with me on occasions...)

Regards and hope it works out. I'll be there first week in February and won't be able to manage 2 visits in 2 months and stay married...hmmmmmmmmm

Cheers,

Pete's not the owner. He's one of the Instructors, and he's about 5'9".

Unless things have changed since September, the owner is a guy by the name of Allan and he's an Aussie. Great guy!

allan would be the tall, bald guy with a beer belly, married to a filipina (cant distinguish aussie/brit accent) is this the owner? anyway ment him in the point thru a brit couple residing in oman. anyway the area of el galleon the best in gallera as the rest can be a bit seedy.

That's right, his girlfriend's Rebecca, nice lady.

Allan's a PADI Course Director who stays dry these days unless it's somewhere seriously special: -

I know he's gone to
Palau
Fiji
Truk
Cocos
Galapagos
Papua New Guinea
Barrier Reef
Red Sea
etc
etc
etc
