I have a Dell. I was so happy with it a bought a backup in form of a laptop.

Im pretty sure that people would point and laugh if I showed up with a dell laptop strapped to my wrist the next time I went for a dip, not to mention the fact that it would be a royal pain to try to waterproof the thing! :D

Im curious about the dive computer you take with you in the water, I already have a desktop that Im happy with and I already know Ill be using it to plan all of my deco dives. Im just wondering what you guys use in addition to that.

My current setup is a SPG with Depth guage a Suunto D3 and my old trusty oceanic datatrans plus. Im looking at getting something does will handle more than one mix and is a little more conservative than my current dive computer. I have been looking at the Nitek and VR3 computers.

thanks
Phil

Have you signed up for a class yet? It might be best to discuss this with your instructor.

I have, but my instructor is going to be outa town for a bit and I thought I might tap the vast stores of knowledge that are available here at scubaboard. I believe its always good to get more than just your instructors opinion on something. I know to many instructors that are slaves to the shop they work for and will tell you that the stuff there shop sells is the only stuff to buy. Im not saying that my instructor is like that(he has his preferences though) but the more information I can gather the more educated a decision I can make.

I too have been researching this a lot. Right now it seems there are really 2 choices ( a least for me) The Delta-P VR3 or the Dive-Rite Nitek HE.

Delta-P VR3

Dive-Rite Nitek HE

After a lot of studying and research I am personally leaning towards the VR3. I think its options and upgradablity are important.

However, before anyone else says it, your computer for use in tech diving, (ie below 130 ft. and deco diving) should be used only as a backup and you should be using dive planners to set your dives. The computer should just be used to double check yourself.

Good Luck

I believe it has games you can play during your stops.
