I am in a good area for fresh water diving some nice clear coal stripper pits. and a few lakes. I plan to get my ow in march i also plan to get the gear to dive on my own.
One issue is there is no dive sho with 50 miles there are a few 50 to 60 and some about 100 miles away Ie indy evansville.

Someone recommend a compressor to fill my own tanks. What does a comressor cost and what model o band would you recommend

Get your OW cert first.
A compressor will run you about $2,000 to $3,000 , and thats just the start. You would be better off getting 4 to 6 tanks and getting them filled so that you don't need to make the trip too often. Or you could buy 3 storage cylinders and get them filled by a shop, then trans fill to your tanks as needed.
A storage cylinder will hold between 250 to 450 cu ft of air depending on size and pressure rating. Storage cylinders run about $200 to $250 ea. used, a fill whip is about $100.

But like I started with, get the OW cert before you jump in with both feet.
I speak as a man that has been there.
