That's what I use. see the attched pic., how ever, if you use AL80, perhaps 30lb lift is better. I use still tanks, so I went for 45.

If I were to use AL80s with the 45 lb wing, with more buoyancy, how would that affect things? Is it that the 45 lbs would be too much?

Ken,

That is amazing. Really. It sounds as if I am now, where you were 9 months ago. I've gotten to the point where I'm comfortable with my current setup. I've been diving at just about every opportunity I've had in the past several months, and my skills have been getting a lot better, but after having read a ton about DIR configuration, I've been wanting to make the switch.

Your trials and tribulations that you have documented will come in handy. I've documented them for future reference, as I'm sure to go through similar experiences in the coming months. I never expected gear to transform me instantly into a "super" diver (I know as I tried this with my golf game, but to no avail), but I view this as a step towards making diving a safer and more enjoyable sport.

When I first started diving, I had no idea of the existence of DIR, and had it not been for the board, I would probably still know nothing about it. And one thing's for sure -- lots of work and practice will ultimately make me a better diver.

Now off to find an Oxycheq dealer.....

It wouldn't be too bad with Al80, but getting the optimum wing for your optimum configuration... isn't that the whole point?

Also please read an excellent article on Dynamic Instability by David Chamberlin (link bellow); This will answer a lot of your questions.

On the second note, if you can come to NY on December 5,6,7, we will have a DIR-F class (pretty much "at cost", so it will be cheaper than normal) with the legendary instructor Michael Kane (also MHK on the board).
