Compass is on a blot snap and clipped to the tether in my right pocket. Compass only comes out when i need it. Most of the time i dont need it.

Use the compass where and when you need to.,
Mount it to a piece of PVC slate, This way you can pull it out when you need to. And You will have the slate to record your bearings/headings
You could hand to other dive team members for confirmation and make other notes to assist in the navigation.

i dive DIR and it goes like this. 99% of local dives use suunto compass in DSS bungee mount.
Suunto is less finicky and can be tilted to 30% and still works, it also has bigger numbers, for those like me :)
In DIR compass is on your left wrist so you can see numbers on its side cut out when your arm is extended straight in front of you.
reason for location is simple. you hold light in your left hand, therefore where you shine it that where you need to go to be on heading displayed on a compass.
