IM going to have a surgery in july, its a bypass in my left leg because of a bloodclott. My doctor said i could dive i was just wanted to know if there is any other divers that are out there that have had bypass surgery how long was it for there first dive after surgery and if they can share there story. Thank You Bless every one and good luck

Hi Prolifik357,

"Iliac" artery bypass surgery can be a rather major procedure and before any return to SCUBA decisions can be made it will need be determined how successful the surgery was. And of course all healing must be complete and the doctor must again indicate clearance to dive.

The reason for a blood clot also is important. If the diver has a clotting disorder or vascular disease that are contributing to the problem, these must be addressed and their implications for diving assessed. Finally, the individual will want to assure that his general level of cardiovascular fitness is appropriate for commercial diving.

Helpful?

Best of luck.
