Has anyone dove on the Comanche wreck near Pentwater? We made an attempt this past August. I followed the GPS#s, when the GPS showed that we were 30' away the fishfinder showed a rise in the bottom. With a 5'+ chop out of the SW, I didn't feel that we would get an anchor to hold, so we aborted the dive.
Just wondering if it would be worth another attempt.

Yes, it's worth diving on. It's not a huge boat but it's pretty intact and a very cool dive. My wife and I also like to call it the Burbot Condo because they are hanging out all over the wreck.

My family's had a cottage in Pentwater for over 40 years. Ever since I got my cert, I've wondered if there was any worthwhile sites off there. Is there anything else but the Comanche in the area? I think the Davok and Minch were sunk nearby (the two ships that collided), but I gather that they have been scrapped / buried over the years.

Also, is there a dive shop out of the Pentwater area that hits these sight, or do you have to go out of Ludington / Muskegon.

I don't know of any charters that hit any of the wrecks out of Pentwater. Keep in touch as we get closer to summer and you're welcome to come along with us when we come up. We normally try to hit Pentwater a couple/three times a summer, early, middle, and late. We're out of Muskegon but wouldn't mind popping in and grabbing you. We normally stay a night or two on the boat at Snug, (Jack's a great host).

I've looked in my books by Cris Kohl and I can't find any info on this wreck. Does anyone have a brief "history lesson"?

I noticed that too. I should ask him about that the next time I see him.

I think it's just a tug that was scuttled by the owner. I don't think it sunk on it's own or anything.

Are you sure Comanche is the name of the wreck? There is no record I could find of a wreck by this name in this area.

I'm going by the info that West Michigan Dive Center has posted on their web site. The GPS#s appear to be correct. I was talking with another diver in the area and he was familiar with the wreck & also refered to it as the Comanche. I haven't been able to find any record of it either.
