Hello Time Bandit:

It has always been my understanding that a “spontaneous” pneumothorax indicates a problem with respect to diving. It indicates that there is sufficient weakness in the lung structure that a rupture, and loss of air, can occur in the absence of any trauma.

TS and M has indicated, from her medical perspective, an amplification of this.
