I am planning to visit Roatan next year and have heard good things about CocoView Resort. On their website, they say that 2 dives are included everyday in the package price. My question is: are these two dives at the same site or do they choose different sites for each dive? Also, someone said that they only do 1 dive at a site and then second dive is the "optional" drop off at the wall outside the resort.

What is the deal here? If they are only doing 1 boat dive (the second dive would be at the same place (i.e. cocoview wall) each day so I don't count that as a different dive).
Do they really offer different dive sites or not?

I am also considering AKR since they offer 3 different boat dives each day.

If you are going to dive, dive, dive ... then CocoView is the place.

They go out twice a day ... once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Each outing they will take you to a different location ... and they've got some REALLY cool dive sites to choose from. Take an extra tank with you, and on the way back they drop you off at one of the two walls that comprise the entrance to the lagoon and you swim back along the wall to the resort. So in this manner, you get four dives off the boat each day ... although you are ending two of them as shore dives.

To better understand how this works, a description of CocoView helps. The resort basically sits at the entrance to a lagoon. You can shore dive the lagoon itself many times and not get tired of it. The shore dive starts (and ends) with a very shallow swim out about 100 yards or so ... then it drops off rather quickly to a moderate depth of about 40-50 feet or so. Just beyond where it drops off, there's a 145 foot ship to explore. We found all sorts of cool stuff on that ship, including sea horses. Just beyond the ship is an old DC3 airplane. On either side are the walls ... and they're both great dives (especially for night diving, if you're into that). On the farther side is Newman's Wall, and on the side closer to the resort is CocoView Wall. What they were doing with us is dropping us on Newman's Wall after the morning boat dive, and CocoView Wall after the afternoon boat dive. While they are both great dives, I preferred Newman's Wall as it just seemed that I saw more cool critters over there.

We were there for a week, and in six days I got in 26 dives. It's easy to do 5 or 6 dives a day if you're really energetic ... and as I said, four of those will be off the boat.

They have 2 boat dives a day. Each boat dive is 2 tanks. So you have a possible 4 dives a day. The morning dive is on a site, the second dive is a drop off dive on either CoCo View Wall or Newman's Wall. The second dive on both the morning and afternoon boat dive is usually the "drop off" dive and you kick back to the resort. You dive all day without blowing your profile. There is unlimited shore diving. Wreck, the Prince Albert, is right there on the resort.

This is a dedicated dive resort, ideal for the diver and set up for the diver.

Dive, dive, dive until you hearts content. We did. My people are still smiling of the memory from when we went there in July of this year.

Coco View is a dive resort - pure and simple. You can actually do six or more dives a day if you desire.

Dawn dive

Breakfast

Boat dive 8:30 am
Boat dive - that becomes a shore dive

Lunch

Boat dive 2:00 pm
Boat dive - that becomes a shore dive

Dinner

Night dive (or two)

Have a beer.

Sleep

Repeat.

All of the above is correct...you say you are considering AKR they do not have any shore diving to speak of so you are limited to their boat dives...it is on the North side of the island so if you plan on going anytime between Oct and Apr that side of the island can get pretty rough if a Norther blows through...they also have a kids program so there may be some kiddos around. These are not bad things these are just things to consider. I have stayed a both resorts and prefer CCV very relaxed laid back and diving 24-7...there are many other reasons but I think they have been covered very nicely in the above threads. Have fun

Go to CCV! You will not regret it!
Make sure you do the dive at Kalvins Crack..I liked it better than Marys Place!

Enjoy!
