….I did a fairly shallow dive today with a max of 33 ft and a total dive time of 66 min. When coming for for my safety stop though, it did not highlight a safety stop and time me. I did have my backup wrist computer which I was able to use which did count down my safety stop. Perhaps it didn't highlight a safety stop because I did not go deep enough? Has anyone else experienced this? I always do a safety stop whenever I dive.

In order for the Cobalt's algorithm to give you a safety stop you need to go below 40', when it will give you a safety stop that registers and counts down when you are in the 20'-10' range. In reality, with a max depth of 33' your entire dive is pretty much a safety stop. Partly this is to avoid triggering repetitive (and potentially annoying) stop alerts for divers bouncing up and down in the shallow zone.

Sure, I might as well delete everything since I haven't used the computer for a dive yet. But, I'm guessing I will also lose all my settings right?
I'll PM you with instructions. You shouldn't lose other settings. In the future, the Cobalt, if reset, will default to the settings and preferences stored with the last dive

Hooked it up today, and it downloaded a new FW file that I'm assuming is actually older than the one actually on the unit... (naturally didn't flash it)

Tried downloading this supposed demo dive and it wouldn't go, so not sure I've quite mastered the trick.

It is still however fun to mess around with the "demo" dives :)

I don't think the firmware update for the Cobalt 2 is up on Atomic's site yet. You will need to update the firmware to version 2.13 before downloading dives from the log will work. The page I see currently has firmware for the original Cobalt only. The process for updating firmware on the Cobalt 2 is different, and much simpler. Essentially the Cobalt will appear on your PC/ Mac as a mass storage device, like a USB drive or a flash card. Yo will just drag the firmware file to this device, and the Cobalt will take care of updating itself. It won't be necessary to install any program or drivers to do this.

Thanks Ron,
I decided not to delete the log given I already had a dive registered. Thanks also for the response on the safety stop. I figured it was because I didn't go deep enough.

Also, I tried to download my dive on the trial version of macdive and it didn't end well. It froze on me and I had to manually reset the cobalt and it kept some settings but reset a bunch of others. It seems to be ok now, will hopefully get out next weekend and try again.

I didn't think that trying to download to MacDive would cause a freeze, but it's possible. That's what the reset is for. Any time the Cobalt is reset, it will revert to the stored settings as of the last dive in memory, so if you had changed anything in the interim that would not be preserved. You should be able to get the new firmware that allows for downloading as soon as Atomic updates their website.

Great thanks Ron. Has anyone else been able to get their Cobalt 2 to work with MacDive?

Yes, it works fine, but only with updated firmware. Atomic is working on updating their site to include the Cobalt 2 firmware.

My LDS says they've ordered mine and that it'll be here "Mid-March" which is any day now :D

Lots of behind the scenes stuff going on with Ron, who has been an absolute champ with getting things resolved (extremely minor quirks regarding FW and downloading - the thing hasn't even been wet yet!)

Yes, the Atomic website is in desperate need of update - hell, the download page doesn't even mention the new model! - but thanks to the patience and persistence of Ron and other members of his team I'm already seeing how I clearly made the right decision on this unit.

Thanks Ron,
I've downloaded 2.13 from website and updated firmware, but still can't get macdive to download dives. Macdive gives a message that it's beginning to import and the upload dives screen on the cobalt shows it's connected but it gets stuck at this point and won't download.

Do you have the most current version of MacDive? We are using version 2.3 on Mac OS 10.8.5, and 2.3.1 on Mac OS 10.9 here with no issues, and I know others have been as well. If you still have problems we might need to get Nick from MacDive involved to figure it out.

Yes, I am on 2.3.1 and have been trading emails with Nick...still can't get to work yet.
