Can you let me know what firmware version you were using? What you describe sounds much like an issue that was sometimes triggered by the low gas alarm, where some portion of the display would not update. That should be fixed in recent versions, including the 2.14 currently posted. I'm guessing the pressure is recorded correctly in the log.

I will try to put together release notes for the updates and post them here.

Ron

I was on 2.13. My next dive will be 20 May, so I'll just wait till the 2.15 update comes out.

The temperature display comes from the depth sensor. We do have diagnostics available that can compare this output with other internal sensors, and you can check the temperature at any time in the System info screen. If it seems really off you would want to do that, and also verify that the sensor is reading correct atmospheric pressure. The System Info screen is intended to provide a place to check the accuracy of the sensors, among other things. You can usually find local atmospheric pressure in mbar online, the Cobalt should be tracking that within 5 mbar or so.

One of the things that we suspect happens in diving is that when the Cobalt is held in your hand for a bit, the case warms up, and since it is fairly massive and the depth sensor is right below where it would most often be held, it tends to read a few degrees higher. All I can say is that whenever we have checked Cobalts customers said were reading high against a calibrated thermometer in a stable environment, they have been within a degree or two of correct. And the complaints have been about the temperature reading higher, not lower.

If you check the temperature reading on the surface, does it seem correct?

Ron

I converted 29.62 inHg to mbar and, if accurate, the Cobalt is off by 34mbar.

Also, I think the water was 60F and the cobalt was reading 68-70F. Right now it's reading 77F in my living room, which is pretty close.

Nick has created a new version of Macdive and it now works fine on my mac. Also, the latest firmware addresses some of the screen display issues I was having. Although, there is still some text getting cut-off on one of the screens.

Is this a special version for testing? 2.3.1 is still the only one on macdive.com

Could you verify the pressure is for your local area, and monitor this vs. the Cobalt's display? 29.62 in Hg would be 1003 mbar- fairly normal if you are around sea level. If your Cobalt is reading 34 mbar off I think you may have a bad pressure sensor. The temperature also seems to be off by a lot. I would contact Atomic for a return before your trip.

Nick has I think just tested out the fix, but i doubt the new version of MacDive is posted yet. So far it has worked for everyone.

There is a 2.15 version that should be posted soon, this update mainly changes some details about how gas switching operates- it keeps gas switching enabled after the end of a dive, until the no-fly time is passed. This was so a diver surfacing for more than two minutes would not have gas switching disabled if they re-descended. It also fixes an issue where entering the water with the Cobalt asleep would sometimes result in it displaying and storing a zero gas pressure for the first few seconds of a dive.

The display issue is on the pre-dive check screen. I can't remember which row, but it was either the max depth or gas at surface row where the # for psi or feet gets cut-off at the beginning.

That sounds like the post dive screen- there were some display issues that got fixed there.
We will have a new firmware update shortly that addresses a few things. We are changing the post dive display to be in line with recent Cobalt 1 versions, and showing the surface interval before the last dive in the post dive screen and dive log. We're also fixing an issue where the birth date might be incorrectly stored in the dive log.

Well, I confirmed everything and got an RMA from Adan...damn that shipping insurance is expensive. If my LDS had more of the Cobalt 2's in, I'd just go exchange it. Didn't really feel like playing $50 to ship something back I've had for 3 weeks :/

I agree- did you ask if Atomic would cover the shipping? Volume shippers do get much better rates, that's something that catches me as well since we ship only rarely.

I mentioned it to him, but haven't received a response

Updated firmware versions for both Cobalt 1 (version 1.62) and Cobalt 2 (2.42) have been posted to the Atomic website, and all users are strongly encouraged to update.

These versions have an interface change to the countdown timers that appear for safety, deep, or deco stops- they zoom out the timer numbers, making them a lot easier to see.

The Cobalt 2 update fixes a compatibility issue with some dive log downloads on the Mac, and is required for dive log download compatibility with the newest Mac OS X version, El Capitan. It also fixes a (very) rare bug where a deco schedule could be created when the diver is still in a no-deco profile.

As usual with these firmware updates, there are many fixes to minor problems and performance improvements, both of these updates are ones we strongly encourage all users to install.

I see that as of today, Nov 13th, the version numbers on the software and updates page have not yet been updated, but if you follow the link to get the firmware, the new versions will be there.
