Good advice from SeaRat. I hardly ever use a snorkel, but when I do I exhale through nose.

Long Deep S L O W breaths is the generally accepted method of dealing with CO2 buildup in the dead airspace of todays "dry" snorkles. Try it in the pool, it works.
