Cline's Diving Industry Survey Results

First Quarter 2011 Dive Business Survey


Highlights:

Cline's first quarter 2011 Dive Industry Survey is in and a total of 144 dive businesses responded to this survey and indicated the following results:

All dive businesses saw, on average, a -2.3% decrease in their gross revenues for the 1st quarter 2011 versus the same period in 2010.

Retailers specifically were down slightly, reporting only a -.5% decrease in their overall gross revenues in the 1st quarter of this year.

New certifications for retailers were down also, posting an average decrease in certifications of -1.4%. Independent instructors also posted a decrease of -17.9% in certifications.

Dive travel sales were down significantly -5.6% specifically for retailers.

Dive equipment sales were actually up for the first time in many quarters, as retailers posted a +.8% increase in sales.

Dive Manufacturing was down again but only slightly at -2.3%, signaling that the 2nd quarter of 2011 may continue to show positive growth for retail sales.

Travel and dive operations in resort areas signaled again we are starting to recover, posting a +5.6% growth this 1st quarter.
