Clear Springs Scuba Park vs. Athens Scuba Park vs. Lake Travis

Hey guys!

I am in Austin and am trying to decide where to go diving this weekend. I have been curious about Clear Springs Scuba Park and Athens Scuba Park. I have been reading about them in the forums, and have seen mixed reviews. Some say the visibility is good, some say bad. Some say the people are friendly and well-behaved, some say not. Some people have said that the clay is hard to get off your gear at Athens.

Lake Travis is reported to have 12-15 foot vis right now. What do you think are the chances that either of these 2 parks will have better visibility than that on a holiday weekend? Which one has more/better sunken objects?

I'm trying to determine if they are worth the 4 hour drive. Can anyone help?

I was at Travis a month ago, and once you drop below ~50ft it opened up a lot visibility wise. It was nice. well over 15'. It was a little chilly, but nice.

Everyone at CSSP has been very nice. Visibility can go from 20ft to 3ft depending on which part, and how many other people have been in before you.

If it were me, and I lived in Austin, I would go to Travis. CSSP is nice, but, travis is better IMO. In fact, I'm thinking about going down there this weekend.

I have no info on athens. But, no fish, questionable water situation, management changes, and openings and closings, I wouldnt make a 4 hr drive for it. Id dive travis and be happy.

I know for me picking a spot to dive this weekend I would pick Travis because no matter what the difference is a four hour drive on a holiday weekend would not be worth it especially since the vis is so good at Travis right now. I was out last weekend and it was GREAT.. I will be at Windy Point Saturday

I wouldn't waste my time going to Athens.....it's a muddy, shallow, lifeless mudhole. I dive Clear Springs as it's 'local' for me ) 60 miles one-way.

I was up at Athens a few years ago. Never again. Imagine diving in lime green milk. We wnt to the submerged plane. Couldn't see it until we were two feet from it.

You bring your own gear, including tanks. Robert runs a good operation to dive sites that are not accessible from shore. You can get air fills on the private side on Windy Point.

Almost forgot. Robert has weights on the boat, so that's the one thing you don't need to bring. And he has a cooler for any drinks and snacks you might bring.
