A litle too rough to go out today so I thought I'd clean up the equipment some. I have 3 purge valves on my bc. To get them open for cleaning do I just use some elbow grease and turn in couter-clockwise direction ? Once open would it be worthwhile to spray springs with silicone ? I was planning on mixing up some soapy water ( joy ) and giving the bladder a good rinse. Any other ideas, caveats ? Thanks.

I don't think the Scubapro dump valves can be unscrewed. I've got the Knighthawk & have run into the same issue. Other BCs I've tried, had dump valves that were really easy to unscrew. I fill it with water, through the inflator hose, rather than push my luck. It works. I'd be interested to know if there's a way to remove these dumps.

The LDS infomed me that the dumps on our Ladyhawks and my Knighthawk could only be unscrewed with a special tool. Same with my Mares Synchropro BC. An ancient SP Classic I also own does allow disassembly of its single dump valve. Apparently this change was undertaken to prevent people from mis- assembling their BC's. (Cost seems unlikely to be a factor, as the valves seem quite similar in complexity.) I'd suggest being *very* careful handling these valves, if you do somehow get them unscrewed. Your life could depend on their proper openeing and closing!
