Two of us dove the lake today to see if things had improved any as the lake has been doing it's Fall turnover the past few weeks. I didn't really hold out much hope as vis last Sunday was poor 2-3' or less in some spots. We dove to 118' last week and it didn't get any better. Lights were need at 20' last week.
Dropping down, noting 10' vis in the first 40', I suspected that we were in for a better day and that maybe the turnover has completed and things will be settling out. We dove down to the 3 big rocks. Vis stayed at 8-10' until about 45', then it dropped gradually (to about 4' by time we hit 70'). From the three big rocks we went to the 40' ledge (no lights needed above 40' today though the sky was a solid dark gray overcast). From the 40' ledge we dropped down to the angel statue (still vis of 6' or so here, dropping down towards the trench the vis slowly dropped off. We exited the trench and dove the 100' wall and the area below this. Saw lots of small fish and a couple of cats, one a very large flathead. After circling the big stump we turned South and swam the 55' ledge past the bouy and through the trench again. Passing the angel statue we turned upward and swam most of the 40' ledge and onward to our swimming safety stop. Dive time was 1:07 and max depth was 99'. Water temp was 60 degrees top to bottom with no thermoclines noted. It appears that the lake has completed its turnover and is settling out. Looking forward to continuing improvement in the vis in the deeper depths.
