Clark Hill Any Reports?

What is the lake looking like? Does anyone have a recent report?

Made two dives at Clark Hill today. Vis is finally improving. Vis was about 12' on the plane, rocks and 40' ledge. The wall is diveable but still only about 5-6' of vis. Temps are upper 70's on surface, thermocline that drops things to about 73 at 18' or so. Below the thermocline is where the clearer water is. We are getting in two dives tomorrow @ 1p. Come join us.

I would like to dive on Lake Thurmond Dam this Saturday June 19th. I don't have a dive buddy and/or plans to attend with anyone; this is all last minute really. My group is camping at Ellijay, but they can live without me. Let them broil on the surface!

I have not dived in many years; but conversely I do keep my gear serviced regularly. Hopefully that will pay off this weekend. I out-grew my 7mil; but I can still squeeze into the 2mil- will that be enough?

I'm hoping that I can 'tag along' without someone. Otherwise I'll still go- just not too deep.

What time of day is best for the Dam? Any advice, time, or acknowledgement if/when others will be diving would be appreciated. This is for June 19th...possibly the 20th if early (and I can get refills).

We will not likely be diving the lake this weekend (other dives planned). I am glad that you desire to renew your interest in diving. It is a wonderful sport and certainly an addiction for me (cannot find a 12 step group for this addiction and if I did we would all fall off the wagon ). However, I would caution you against your intended plan if unable to find a buddy. 2mm is insuffcient for this dive (water temps in the 60's below 20') and most everything of interest is below this depth. Since you have not dove in "many years", completing a scuba review and/or practice in a pool would be adviseable prior to diving. Keeping your gear serviced is great, but does not take the place of in water experience. Solo diving after "many years" of being out of diving with insufficient exposure protection and lack of knowledge of the area could at best be a miserable experience and at worse... well let's not even go there....

I'll take my dry-suit and hope others show up (I learned in Seattle- I know all about cold water!). I'll just have to be patient...

If you know another venue where folks post for diving- I'd love to know what it is. I'm on a tight budget these days- filling my air tank and my fuel tank is about all I can afford now. So anything within 100 miles of Atlanta would be great.

Fate it seems has taken a hand- my tanks out of inspection...figures.

So- I won't be camping out on the damn looking for a dive partner; but I'm still interested should anyone be planning on diving there, Lake Lanier, etc.. in the coming months.
