My son and I are going to be at Fantasy Island Resort on Roatan for Christmas. Has anyone been there recently? I have read good and bad reviews. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips they could share to make our stay there more enjoyable like which dive sights are the best or which rooms are better?

Thanks for the replies ><(((*>ooo

Any and all dive-ops will take you where they will take you. It is not, alas, a democracy.

The closer you stay with your DM the more you will see. The South side of Roatan rewards slow and observant divers with good buoyancy and observational skills. The little critters in the nursery of the Soth shores of Roatan are truly what makes it unique in the Caribbean.

Go, have fun, wear insect repellant lest the sand flies eat you for Christmas dinner.

I was just there a couple of weeks ago and have to say I was really disspointed with the resort. The diving and the dive crew were good though. They are currently renovating and we did not have any hot water the entire time we were there. Nor did the other 50 people we were traveling with. I would sugest getting a 100 or 200 room. They are off the main bulding and are already remodeled.

Check out trip advisor for some more info about them.

As far as dive sites. Mary's Place and Calvins crack are the way to go. Make sure you are on one of the early dive boats as it seems like the the fish were scared away from the later ones. There is a house reef with a plane and large ship. The vis was pretty crappy on the way out to them but cleared up as we got closer. Also note, you need them to take you to the house reef via small boat. It's not a matter of putting on your gear and jumping into the water.

As RoatanMan said - get a really good bug spray with DEET in it. We were COVERED with bites and they didn't go away for a week after we got home.

Hope this helps - Feel free to PM me for more details.
