The shore diving at SCC can't be matched anywhere on Cozumel. If that is important, then go back there.

Really?

Plane tickets for those dates are so cheap, with Tuesday travel the lowest at $314 RT - I don't think you can find dive & hotel combination like you requested for less that Scuba Mau & Villablanca. The link given above hotelpackages quotes some great prices (get the Superior room!), but email them - see if they have any better ideas.

.

A description from Scuba Club says "The jagged ironshore limestone wall gives refuge to many juvenile reef fish, lobsters, crabs, octopi, and even an occasional seahorse"

That's what I'm looking for, five to twenty fsw with overhanging ledges. I would guess the entire coast is similar ironshore but only a few places to enter. Does the wave action tend to bash one against the shore at Scuba Club?

Does Villablanca have the same topography?

I've done very little shore diving in Coz. We started one dive off of VB last summer but the bud had problems so we aborted for siesta time. It may well be much better at SC.

I had no problems with wave action at Scuba Club on our trip. You can giant stride off the pier and there is a protected entry that you can access underwater. For exit you can choose a ladder or come back to the protected entry. If the wave action is high, you have to time the surge using the underwater route but it was no problem. This was my preferred entry because I could sit on the stairs and make sure my camera was ready before setting off.

Scuba Mau and Villa Blanca have a great package deal. From bed your 20 steps to the dive shop and from the shop your 15 steps to the water. Opal and Mau are amazing, there crew is fantastic. I have never stayed at VB before but I took a look at it when I was there is May it looks great. Like Kevin said there is a couple of restaurant's to eat at that are very close, but you gotta get downtown for some great food and ice cold refreshments. I leave for another week of great diving with Scuba Mau in 4 days.

Cheers Matthew

Hey, my wife and I are looking for the cheapest and best hotel and dive package in Cozumel. After staying at the Cozumeleno and diving with Scuba Du (which was a solid dive op), we decided that we'd rather stay and dive in the same place. On our second trip we stayed and dove with Scuba Club Cozumel, which was fantastic. Hotel and Dive Op were amazing, and we loved the unlimited shore diving (it indulges our macro fascination). The price for 2 weeks and 10 days of diving was a bit steep though ($2400 total for two people), so we're wondering if there's anywhere similar for a slightly cheaper price. We're basically looking for a hotel and dive op combo that includes unlimited shore diving.

How about:
7 Nights / 5 Dive Days FROM 529.00

Per Person, Includes: Accommodations, Taxes, Breakfast at Hog Town Cafe Daily, 2 Tanks per Dive Day on Papa Hog's small fast 6 Pack Boat, and unlimited shore dives. We have single room, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom unit, that we can mix and match.

Same price for single, double or triple.

Are you diving with Scuba Mau at the VB location or are you being picked up somewhere else and where are you storing your equipment?

The google street view in front of VB shows Papa Hogs and it looks like there is a Scuba Mau sign pointing to the basement of the Hogtown Cafe. Is that all there is of the Scuba Mau operation?

When I toured downtown with street view it looked kinda boring. I wouldn't be able to tell the good restaurants from the tons of junk.

Scuba Mau is below Hogtown Cafe, but it's not a basement - just lower level. The cafe & convenience store adjacent is on the same level.

And SM stores your gear for you, after rinsing, then has it on the boat for you.

Another vote for scuba mau and villa blanca. I got a screaming deal that included air. at my age I really appreciated them taking care of my gear, hauling it back and forth, rinsing etc. I played football many yrs ago and one knee is kind of gamey. They were quick to take my bc before I climbed back onto the boat. They offer unlimited shore diving. I have not been diving outside of scuba club so I can't give you a comparison. Coz shore diving is pretty, um, adequate. As someone else suggested, if you want great shore diving go to Bonaire - oh, wait, you wanted good pricing. the flight to Bonaire will kill your budget - but the shore diving is excellent. South shore of Roatan has great shore diving as well but again, pricing. Have fun, I'm jealous, I won't be diving till Feb (but then I get to go to Palau :)

I will be staying at the Park Royal AI which is a 35 second drive to the shop or an eight minute walk. I will have my breakfast at PR and just walk down for just after 8. They will keep my equipment for the whole week. On Wednesday when I fly in from chilly Toronto I'll do a shore dive and they will take my gear for me the rest of the week. It's washed, dried and it's on the boat for me the next morning. Don is correct, Scuba Mau is on the lower level of the Papa Hogs Cafe, which I might add serves up some good food. They have a divers breakfast for 44 peso's and if your staying at the VB thats a great deal. The shop itself is not enormous, there is a rock bench all along the front of the shop to sit and relax, plus you get to chat with your dive buddies before the dive. All the gear is locked tightly away so that's not a worry. There is an outdoor shower just before the pier to have a quick soak before you enjoy your after dive drink. Opal will always send you in the right direction for some good food. Walking downtown is a great way to work up an appetite.

Any more questions just ask.

Matthew
