Yeah don't use biners for attaching things to yourself. Biners can and do easily get clipped onto lines and such accidentally and can cause trouble underwater. As long as it's in a pocket it's fine.

Sideband:
When I was using my BCD I just unclipped either my sternum strap or my waist quick disconnects and ran them through the mask strap. Since they are built into the BC they were free and no added entanglement hazard.

Joe

Oooo That would work for me!
Thanks,
Pete

yeah, I never use my shoulder quick releases for anything but a place to hang stuff on the boat. Handy for that, stuff isn't going anywhere.

The BCD in question doesn't have quick releases, thus the need for some other solution.

I just got some Velcro straps (more cheapness!!) so I'll experiement over the next couple of weeks.

What about a loop of caveline tied onto a SS bolt snap - I'm thinking about trying this for my fins, for when reboarding boats - I am always afraid I'm going to drop one of my Jets and watch it sink to the bottom ...

When not needed just clip it inside a pocket

Well, I think I made my cheapest purchase EVER in diving:

This ain;t about tek diving, just convenience... I saw a guy in the DR last week using one for his mask before and after going under.
I'm even cheaper .... I just wear my mask. No extra hardware needed. ;)

If the mask isn't comfortable enough to wear for a couple of minutes on the boat and on the surface, then it isn't going to be comfortable enough for hour long dives.

You mean that mask isn't just for looks? ;)

Personal preference... I like to take it off, what can I tell ya.

Turns out the inflator hose on my own BC ripped, and I couldn;t get it replaced on little ole Grand Turk, so I'm using a rental Sherwood; it's got a fabric loop inside the left pocket, so the biner solution works just great.

I use locking biners if I'm going to use them -- these aren't prone to the same problems because you must unlock them to engage the hinge.
