Will be in Ft lauderdale on Saturday for a week. Weather channel isn't so accurate but this last week it's been saying thunderstorms there in FL. For the next week it looks like the same.

Has it really been that bad this last week? (how accurate was weather channel?)

I can understand thunderstorms and winds being a reason to cancel charters, but if all it does is rain, will the charter boats still go out?

I've never heard of rain keeping a dive boat at the dock. Now if that rain brings strong winds and a strong possibly of lightning that's another story, just rain you should be fine and perhaps mother nature will rinse your gear for you.;)

From now through October, the phrase "Chance of showers/rain" will be in 99.9% of the FL weather forecasts - its the rainy season and thats what happens this time of year down here, especially in south FL.

The showers come, and generally, they go quickly - its not like in, say, the northeast, where you can have 8 hours of rain and gloomy skys - the sun normally comes out between showers. Mornings tend to be better weather; the showers tend to roll in during the PM.

But I would not let it worry you - it may be raining in Miami, and clear in Ft Lauderdale - Jupiter has a microclimate, so its never bad weather there (it doesn't, but sometimes I swear it does.....).

Re this week - we had much meeded rain Mon night, yesterday, and predicted for today - so far, sea conditionwise, the forecast for the weekend is pretty good.

I think you are going to be fine.

I've seen it rain on the lawn across the street while it was sunny on my own lawn.

Might I recommend packing a poncho or plastic rain jacket with your gear, it will make the surface interval and ride out/back more pleasant if it does indeed rain. Also, I hope you always have a light when you dive, it will help you see under ledges better if it is overcast.

Dive dive dive and have fun, you'll be wet anyway. :)

Thanks. Was just wondering if my dives were going to get canceled just because of rain.

Plan your dives for the morning to reduce the chances of being thunderstormed out.

Don't be fooled, she has 4 lane streets between her lawn and her neighbor's :D

Agreed. If nobody came to Florida when our forecast said a "chance of thunderstorms", we'd have no visitors from May through September.

Can we do that with the snowbirds instead?:shakehead:

Bad idea. We need the tax revenue generated by those visitors and frankly, I'm not ready for the state of FL to begin taxing my income.

It's sunny and 78 here year-round as far as I'm concerned :D
